New Year, New Fitness Goals: Lagree Resolution

By Danielle Rosario

As we’ve begun a brand new year, hopefully, that sense of inspiration is still thriving within you — lighting your way as you embark on a journey of self-improvement. Among the throng of resolutions that you may want to make, fitness goals often take center stage.

This year, why not consider diving into the transformative world of Lagree fitness? If you’re not already hooked, give this life-altering workout some time — and in just a couple of months, I bet you’ll not only see changes but will feel like a brand new you.

Let’s make this year the one where you not only hit your fitness goals but exceed any expectations you have. And with Lagree as your chosen workout resolution, you can kiss goodbye to any lingering doubts.

Setting Realistic Lagree Fitness Goals

Before getting into Lagree fitness goal specifics, let’s go back to basics when it comes to setting goals. Think realistic and achievable. Sure, any goals you make should push and challenge you to some extent, but you want to make sure they’re within your reach. If not, you’ll end up working your booty off, and despite making progress and improving, you’ll end up feeling like a failure. Who wants that?

I’m sure you’ve heard of the SMART criteria for goal-setting at some point in time or another. So, we’ll just give you a little refresh to help you as you set your personal fitness goals. Ask yourself if your goal is SMART:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Relevant, and
  • Time-bound

Specificity is foundational, and the more specific you are, the better. Instead of a vague goal like “getting fit,” define what that means to YOU and go for something like “take three Lagree classes per week and drink 64 ounces of water every day,” for example.

Make sure you can measure the goal so that it’s clear whether or not you hit it — that’s why goals that aren’t specific are hard to track. As we mentioned earlier, choosing an achievable goal is super important, and you want to make sure it’s relevant to your overall fitness resolution. Lastly, set a timeline for reaching your goal so it doesn’t just become a distant wish, hope, or desire.

When it comes to Lagree-specific goals, you are the only one who can choose a SMART goal that’s best for you. Whether you’re a beginner or a Lagree expert, there are plenty of ways to challenge yourself. Here are a few examples:

Beginners:

  • Mastering foundational Lagree moves
  • Maintaining consistent attendance
  • Increasing resistance gradually

Intermediate:

  • Trying to execute more advanced Lagree moves and variations
  • Increasing the TUT (Time-Under-Tension) principle

Advanced:

  • Moving on up to the advanced classes
  • Becoming certified in Lagree
  • Joining Lagree challenges in your community

Just remember to be SMART when it comes to your Lagree fitness goals, and soon, you’ll be on your way to success.

Overcoming January Challenges

If you’re anything like me, January can be a challenging time. Break time is over, and it’s back to the hustle and bustle of real life. Not to mention the colder weather and shorter days that don’t do us any favors.

The Post-Holiday Motivation Slump

December is my favorite month, so naturally, I don’t love it when January rolls in. The time leading up to the holidays at the end of the year brings anticipation, excitement, and joy. There’s something to look forward to — a break from work and time for fun and relaxation with your loved ones. And man, oh man, does that time seem to fly by even faster than most days…

So how do you combat the post-holiday gloom when jumping into the new year with positivity and motivation may seem like a tall order?

Take baby steps. Pat yourself on the back for even getting out of bed when you’re dying to keep pressing that snooze button. Or, instead of jumping back into your hour-long workout, opt for exercising for 15 minutes or half an hour. Then, work your way up to that hour session. Easing back into any routine will keep you on the right path. One small step at a time.

Incorporating Lagree Workouts Into Daily Life

Building structure into your day supports you as you try to get back into the swing of things. As part of your workout resolution, start scheduling your Lagree workouts well ahead of time.

Choose classes that suit your schedule and accommodate your other commitments. Taking into consideration personal preference is also helpful. Don’t sign up for evening classes if you enjoy working out in the morning before heading into the office. Once you sign up for your classes and schedule them into your calendar, view them as any other commitment you have. For example, if you have a work meeting, you’re not going to skip it because you’re feeling lazy — the same goes for when it comes to hitting your fitness goals.

In addition to scheduling, make sure you create a supportive environment for your workout. This is time you set aside especially to work toward your fitness resolution, so give it your all. It should be a no-phone zone. Eliminate any distractions around you if you’re working out at home. And if you’re in the studio, treat it like a sanctuary — find your favorite spot and make that your go-to machine.

Staying Accountable and Motivated

To help you hit your fitness resolutions, accountability, and motivation are two key ingredients that you’ll want to mix into your workout recipe.

Setting Up Accountability Mechanisms

Accountability is an extremely powerful motivator. There are different ways to create an accountability system that is effective for you.

  • Workout buddies or accountability partners —This is my favorite part of accountability because you get to team up with a buddy! And you get to enjoy your workouts with someone who shares your love of Lagree. This makes a challenging class more enjoyable. Plus, you’ll have each other to rely on for support and encouragement as you each work toward your unique fitness goals.
  • Tracking progress and celebrating achievements — Don’t forget to regularly track your progress, as this will help you see how much you’ve improved down the line. Whether it's upping your resistance by one spring on the Megaformer, progressing from a modified Lagree move, or improving endurance, make sure to celebrate all of these milestones. Each and every seemingly “small” victory adds up and contributes to the overall success of your fitness resolution.

Troubleshooting Common Setbacks

Reaching your goals doesn’t come without some hurdles along the way. No one ever said fitness goals would come easy — and if they did, well, I hate to break it to you, but they were lying. Now, we’re not saying it has to be difficult and dreadful, but the best things in life typically don’t come easy. Just remember that setbacks are normal and simply part of the process of your workout resolution.

Plateaus in Lagree Fitness Progress

Plateaus are a natural part of any fitness journey. If you feel like you’re hitting a plateau, consider mixing up your normal Lagree routine. Try variations of different moves, continue to increase your resistance, or explore different classes and instructors. Think of a plateau as a sign it’s time to add some variety and an extra oomph to your workouts.

Dealing With Injuries and Setbacks

Injuries add an unforeseen struggle to your journey, and although they’ll set you back, they shouldn't completely derail you. Keep your eye on your fitness goals. Listen to your body, prioritize rest when needed, and seek professional advice if injuries persist. We’re all for pushing and challenging yourself, but when dealing with an injury, that’s when you want to give your body some extra TLC.

Seeking Professional Guidance When Needed

Don't hesitate to get professional guidance when faced with challenges beyond your knowledge. Lagree instructors are trained to provide personalized assistance, ensuring your workouts are effective and safe. There are many specialized coaches out there whose purpose is to guide you as you work toward your goals.
